Description of Stitch

The single / double crochet is a short stitch and gives a compact or solid look to your work. This is a basic crochet stitch and used in most patterns.

Step by Step - Single Crochet

Step 1

Length of chain

Start with a length of chain. When you get to the end of your chain and are ready for your first row.

Step 2

second chain

Miss the first chain and insert the hook into the second chain.

Step 3

single crochet - two loops

Put the hook under the yarn and pull one loop through and leave it on the hook. Now put the hook under the yarn and pull the yarn through both loops.

Step 4

Single crochet stitch

This is one single crochet / double crochet stitch complete. Now repeat step 3 until you have have a full row of sinlgle / double crochet

Step 5

Row of single crochet

This shows one complete row of single / double crochet.
